Since emerging from its most humble origins some 10 years ago, World Gin Day has grown to be more than just a one day event. It’s become a week long affair! And it’s not just about bar crawls and festivals –  for many it’s an entire way of life for a week. Gin is everywhere, it is everything and it will be the most important element of your weekend on the 9th and 10th June.

For those of you not taking part in Junipalooza or who missed out on tickets (what were you thinking?!), we’ve got a round up of the other juniper-based shenanigans going on. And yes, we know we can be guilty of forgetting that there is a world outside of London, but the global nature of World Gin Day has us looking at other places getting in on the action, so rest assured we’ll keep adding them in when we find ones that catch our eye!

This World Gin Day Weekend Eve (This is our Christmas, OK?), guests can enjoy a menu takeover of bespoke Scapegrace Gin serves developed by the Worship Street Whistling Shop team.  Victorian inspired, Worship Street Whistling Shop is an award-winning cocktail bar styled on the gin palaces originally found in London in the 1820s, and is also home to an experimental beverage laboratory and dram shop.

The special World Gin Day menu will feature a Cherry Negroni (Scapegrace Classic Dry Gin, Black cherry and Freddo frog distillate, Aperol, Punt e Mes, Chilli tincture), a Strawberry Southside Royale (Scapegrace Classic Dry Gin, Strawberry syrup, Mint acid, Champagne reduction) and The Wellington (Scapegrace, Fernet Branca, Wattleseed Cordial, Orange Bitters). Champagne reduction? How obnoxiously exquisite!

Guests also have the one-off chance to enjoy a flight of all 3 at a 3rd of the size for just £10 a pop! More on this event HERE

PINK YOUR World Gin Day (Friday 8th)

It’s official, ‘pink’ is now a verb and apparently there’s no better way to pink your drink than at Flat Iron Sq with Beefeater. The Beefeater Pink Van is serving up all kinds of treats from Pink G&Ts, Pink Cocktail Slushies, pink popsicles. All drinks will be accompanied with a complimentary pot of delicious British strawberries that can be enjoyed in Flat Iron’s Beefeater Pink garden.

There will be live music and entertainment and because everything there is rose tinted, those turning up wearing pink will not go unnoticed. Or maybe they’ll be able to camouflage in…? Our advice, wear black, but bring a flamingo. More info HERE.

For a taste of summer in the Southwest of France (via Spitalfields), Citadelle Gin has joined up with Blixen this World Gin Day,  creating an ultimately decadent oyster and gin matching masterclass with their brand ambassador.

Learn how this gin boarders with the Charente river, home to France’s finest oysters and hear about how their minerality works perfectly with the gin’s botanicals. Each guest will enjoy a taste of three Citadelle gins: the Classic, Réserve and Old Tom ‘No Mistake’ followed by a generous G&T and oyster.

WRIST BANDS and WGD BARS (all four days)

World Gin Day LONDON will be the first amplification of World Gin Day. Organised by the team who bring you London Cocktail Week (and Wine Week!), they have planned four-days of activities dedicated to celebrating gin across the capital. Just like other Drink Up festivals, a selection of London’s best bars will provide bespoke £6 gin cocktails for those with a festival pass. You need to register and buy your pass before you show up to the bars (PASSES HERE), but at just £10 a pop, you’ll be making your money back in no time.

Here’s a list of the bars currently taking part: World Gin Day Bars

For those in Northern Ireland, the team at Shortcross are opening up their doors for you. There are cocktails on arrival, Tour/Taste & a masterclass with live music on the terrace. Each guest will also receive a Shortcross branded glass and a £5 voucher towards an onsite bottle purchase and if you fancy a bot of carry on after the tour, a full bar service will be in operation, where you can enjoy our Shortcross Cocktails and Shorttails….. Tickets can be found HERE.

Last but definitely not least, for our readers in Australia…

The team at Archie Rose over in Sydney are showcasing the inclusive atmosphere that rains supreme between distillers Down Under. They are going to sell gin flights of Archie Rose, Poor Toms, Young Henry’s and Manly Spirits (for $20) at the distillery’s bar, showcasing the best of what Sydney ginsmiths have to offer and not just their own.

There doesn’t seem to be a link to book in ahead, so our guess is that you rock up to the bar, slap dollar bills down and smile (or be a normal person and just ask nicely at the door). Distillery location details can be found HERE.

Taxi Kitchen & Anther Gin have plans to take guests on a botanical journey through 5 continents over a 5 course lunch matched with 5 gin cocktails. It’s $95 per person and you’ll need to make a booking ahead of time and once there, make sure you check out the distillery & restaurant’s collaborative batch of gin! Made towards the end of last year – the gin features a combination of 20 botanicals exploring the bridge between the distillery, and Chef Tony Twitchett’s cooking…
